How flight status works

Flight status combines scheduled, estimated and recorded departure and arrival times. Estimates can change. A missing estimate does not mean a flight is on time. The update time beside each flight helps you judge how current the information is.

Check the flight number, travel date and both airports against your booking. The same flight number can run on several dates or include more than one route leg. Some codeshare flight numbers may not appear.

The service date normally follows the scheduled departure in the departure airport’s time zone. If that time is missing, we use the actual departure. If neither departure time is available, we use the scheduled arrival date in the arrival airport’s time zone. The date basis and time zone are shown with each occurrence. UTC is used when the airport time zone is unavailable. An overnight flight may arrive on a different date.

The update time shows when we last retrieved the observation, in UTC. It is not the time you opened this page or a guarantee that the underlying record changed at that moment. Airport departure/arrival boards can report late or revise an earlier observation. A missing update is not confirmation that a flight is on time.

The history window and sample sizes come from available observations. An arrival is counted as delayed when its actual arrival is more than 15 minutes after its scheduled arrival. Cancelled or diverted flights and arrivals missing an actual or scheduled time are excluded from that calculation. Cancellation counts are separate. Historical samples may be incomplete and do not predict a future flight.

You can look up flights with available flight records. If your flight is missing, it does not mean it is cancelled. Check the flight number on your booking or confirm the details with your airline.
